Cyril Goodyear is a man who loves the out-of-doors. Summer or winter, his favourite pastime is to set up camp almost anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador’s wilderness. Having served as a Newfoundland Ranger (later transferred to the RCMP), his initial exposure to nature came as an unwritten part of his job description.
In later years, as Provincial Court Judge, Chief Jude of the Provincial Court, Associate Deputy Minister Department of Rural, Agricultural, and Northern Development, Cyril always found time to get away from these high-pressure positions and return to nature.
Retired since 1989, the position is now reversed: Cyril spent one term as mayor of Deer Lake where he resides.
