The Festival at Ochre Pit Cove is revving up for its fifth birthday the weekend of June 16th and 17th with a robust mix of beloved award winning authors and dazzling new talent. Held at Ochre House Retreat (formerly The Church at Ochre Pit Cove), the Festival is a celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador books, music and art.

Friday night offers a sneak preview of Trudy Morgan-Cole’s anticipated forthcoming novel, Most Anything You Please, along with a reading from her latest historical novel, A Sudden Sun. Award-winning writer Kevin Major, one of Newfoundland’s most well- loved authors, will read from his remarkable historical novel Found Far and Wide. And former CBC reporter Glenn Deir reads from his irreverent The Money Shot. Festival house band What Odds returns with fabulous traditional tunes to top off the evening.

As a special treat, we are thrilled to pair up with Lori McCarthy of Cod Sounds to offer delicious local cuisine on Saturday before the show 5-6:30 pm for only $15. Tickets must be purchased in advance and we expect them to sell out, so book early.

Saturday night’s offerings include acclaimed playwright Robert Chafe reading from Two Man Tent, a collection of evocative, elegant short stories, and first time novelist Bridget Canning introduces us to the intrepid heroine in her arresting novel, The Greatest Hits of Wanda Jaynes. They’ll be joined by Eva Crocker, whose Barrelling Forward was called a “sizzling debut” by the Toronto Star. We close out the weekend with the stunning voice of Carbonear’s own Jenny Gear and musical icon Sandy Morris.

As always, we’ll have a pop-up gallery with Newfoundland art available for purchase.

In person through Breakwater Books (1 Stamp`s Lane), in person at the Travel Bug (197 Water Street, St. John’s) and in person at Small Point General Store (Small Point.) The Festival at Ochre Pit Cove is presented by Ochre House Retreat and Breakwater Books with support from a variety of generous sponsors.
