The intimate memoir of the longest-serving woman politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, beginning with her challenges as a survivor of child sexual abuse, family alcoholism, a broken marriage, as well as the grief of losing a child and a brother, and being diagnosed with cancer. Twice.

Just Around the Corner is the story of Member of Parliament for Labrador Yvonne Rumbolt-Jones – an Indigenous girl from a Northern community who broke free of her geographic and political isolation to embrace opportunity in the world. It is the story of a woman who refuses to let the scars of the past define her, but rather uses them to help her grow and understand that while we may not control the events that cause us great harm in life, we do control how we move forward – how we use those events to make ourselves stronger, more forgiving, and grateful for new days.

Rumbolt-Jones writes with confidence and candor about how she overcame adversity and marginality to be elected to both the provincial House of Assembly (1996 - 2013, five consecutive elections) and the national Parliament (2013 - present, four consecutive elections), where she has been a strong leader and voice for not only Canada’s North, but women and Indigenous peoples.

Yvonne Jean Rumbolt-Jones spent her life in Labrador. She grew up in the isolated Indigenous community of Mary’s Harbour in Canada’s North in the 70’s and 80’s. Leaving home for college at 17, she graduated as a journalist and took up writing for the Robinson Blackmore chain of weekly papers and later the evening Telegram, Newfoundland's only daily newspaper. Jones has been mayor of her local community, an MHA for 17, and in 2013 became the first MP elected under Justin Trudeau’s leadership of the Liberal party of Canada. In total, Rumbolt-Jones has won 9 elections and is the longest serving woman from Newfoundland in both provincial and federal politics.
